Transponder calibration

Transponder calibration at the CDN1 ESA Altimeter Calibration Site:

  • CryoSat-2 on 5-Feb-2018 18:41:47 UTC (Previous Cal/Val 5-Jan-2018 at 8:04:26 UTC),
  • Tandem mission of Jason-2 and Jason-3, March-October 2016,
  • Jason-3 continuously every 10 days after its launch,
  • Sentinel-3A every 27 days at 20:00:12 UTC continuously after its launch.

 

Registration fees

Registration fees include Welcome reception, Workshop Sessions, and coffee breaks.

Registration Fees Early (until 28 February 2018) Late (from 1 March 2018)

Students  100 Euro 100 Euro

Social events and excursions are not covered by the registration fee. The following costs apply for attending these events:

Gala Dinner 45 Euro
Gala Dinner (accompanying person) 25 Euro
Gala Dinner (kids <12 years old) free

 

Elafonisi Island Excursion 30 Euro
Knossos & Archaeological Museum of Heraklion (150 km away from Chania)* 70 Euro
*includes transportation, entrance fees for Knossos and Heraklion archaeological sites, and experienced guide.

Cancellation Policy

In case of cancellation, a written notification must be sent to the Local Organizing Committee [This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.] on or before 15 March 2018.

If received by 15 March 2018, your cancellation will be accepted and a refund of fees will be made (bank handling charges will be deducted from the amount to be refunded).

No refunds will be made for cancellations after 15 March 2018.

 

Visa Requirements/Letter of Invitation

Greece is part of the Schengen Area of 29 European countries. It is the sole responsibility of nationals of non-Schengen countries to contact their local Embassy of Greece (or consulate) to check if they have to apply for a visa. A Letter of Invitation could be sent upon request.

The "International Review Workshop on Satellite Altimetry Cal/Val Activities & Applications" is not obligated to cover participant’s expenses related to travel, accommodation, subsistence, registration, etc. or any other expenses during their stay in Greece.

SeRAC: Sentinel-3 Radar Altimeter Calibration Site in Crete

FRM4ALT is continued in the Sentinel-3 Radar Altimeter Calibration in Crete (SeRAC) activity with Operational Support, now in place. The objective of this SeRAC project is to ensure the routine operations and maintenance of the CDN1 transponder Cal/Val site for Sentinel-3A but also for Sentinel-3B Commissioning and Routine Operational Phase. The transponder Cal/Val operations shall be further supported by the sea-surface Cal/val sites established at the Permanent Facility for Altimetry Calibration in west Crete, Greece.
